First Post of this Blog  3/5/06

This is the title that my children would find as appropriate. After all, the DVD Recorder we got for Christmas is still in the box, un-installed, next to the TV upstairs. Also, my wife gave me a laptop last Christmas just so I would stop crashing our home computer. You can only imagine the looks I got when I said that I was going to start a Blog! Nevertheless, here we are.  You can blame this on Hugh Hewitt -just finished his book- “BLOG: Understanding the information Reformation That’s Changing Your World”.  I can say that yesterday was “a day that will live in infamy”–at least in the Davis household.  When I get frustrated, I get rather loud –it took me 3 1/2 hours to do the ’simple’ task of registering my domain name.  Then another 3 in order to get it on the nameplate above–what ever it is called!  My wife was rather encouraging the whole time–”if this is the way you are going to be, you had better forget it!” (A totally justified comment).

Over the years, I have answered a lot of Bible questions from friends and relatives, and interjected comments on Christianity and religion, & culture whether wanted or not. The last few months, one of my daughter’s friends (and now my friend) -David, started e-mailing me questions on the Bible. I had a lot of fun answering and felt useful in the process.  About a month ago during worship at church, the idea for this blog came to me.  I haven’t been doing a whole lot of Bible teaching lately, and was thinking and praying before the Lord that morning, about how I could make a better contribution in 2006.   Yesterday in church, two scriptures came to mind in relation to this project:

1Peter 3:15  “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (NIV)

Jude 3  ” I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.” (NIV)

The domain name for this blog came to me from these scripture.–‘answers’ from 1Peter 3:15, and ‘for the faith’ from Jude.  These scriptures are the reason & theme of this blog–we plan on answering questions on the Bible & on the Christian faith–with comments and observations on Christian survival in a decidedly secular society and adversarial environment.
