Response: The reaction of Secretary Napolitano, who happens to be in the UAE, to the Fort Hood shooting is to be concerned about negative reactions against Muslims.
We are in total agreement that Muslims in general should not be persecuted or blamed in any way because of the actions of one man.
However, the fact is that there is no evidence that Muslims are going to be discriminated against because of the action of one bad guy. Rather than protecting the country from anymore possible home grown terrorists, Napolitano and the Obama administration proposes to increase political correctness instead and make American Muslims a protected class.
From all the reports that have come in over the last several days, Major Hasan was a devout Muslim who displayed some radical tendencies that had concerned his colleagues. He had received discipline for attempting to proselytize patients, made statements in conferences about beheading and pouring oil down non-Muslims, and radical comments on Islamist websites concerning suicide bombers. He had also made it quite clear to fellow officers that he opposed American troops occupying Muslim countries like in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
It is obvious that ‘political correctness’ led to this incident in the first place. So much was ignored and discounted as Hasan continued to be promoted in spite of considerable evidence concerning his radical Islamist attitudes. In the context of his medical and Army career, all of his radical religious tendencies were ignored and served up to the cause of tolerance and correctness.
Rather than calling for officials in the government and the Army to make sure that the country is secure from similar attacks. Rather than devising new investigative procedures that would vet anyone else serving in the military with similar attitudes or radical tendencies. The Sec. of supposed Homeland Security proposes to turn the whole thing upside down and make all Muslims in general a new class of official victims to be protected at all costs.
