Found this on OneNewsNow. John Whitehead, founder of The Rutherford Institute, is quoted in an interview:
“God has become THE four-letter word in most public schools in the United States, … An elite segment of society that views God as irrelevant has come to predominate.”
“What’s happened is [that] the elitists — the people who run American society, from the public education system to certain governmental institutions and figures — have basically decided that God is irrelevant to public discussion, …This ignores the 120 million-plus people in America who take their religion seriously, [who] practice it, and who pay taxes to support institutions like the public schools.”
“The issue in such instances is the religious believer versus the secular state,” he writes. “It is also a denial of everything this country stands for in terms of the freedoms of speech, religion, and a respect for moral tradition.”
Response: We are getting to a point in this country where nearly everything and every religion can be presented and talked about in American public schools except traditional Christianity and the God of the Bible.
I have even read about numerous instances and complaints where teachers have shown ‘R’ rated movies as a teaching tool.
Also, I have read about a number of cases where different schools across the country have provided a separate room and time out of the classroom for Muslim students to say their prayers. While the same schools have denied equal access for Christian students for worship or Bible study–or even to have a Bible on campus or talk about God.
It is really remarkable how in one generation “freedom of religion” has been turned on its head to mean “no public display of Christianity”. When I was in public elementary school in the 50’s, every school day started with a prayer, a scripture, and the pledge–“one nation under God…”.
