-Congress Passes Act That Could Criminalize Biblical Christianity

Congress passed the so-called ‘Equality Act’ on Friday that many believe would criminalize Biblical Christianity if it were to become the law of the land. From Townhall:

… It provides the state with the power to persecute anyone who won’t celebrate any aspect of the LGBTQ agenda.

Far from merely expanding civil rights categories, it turns any recognition of the differences between the sexes or any preference for traditional sexual morality into actionable “hate,” creating fertile grounds for lawsuits.

“It is the most dangerous bill to freedom of speech and the free exercise of religion that has ever been proposed on a national level,”

says Houston Baptist University Prof. Robert Gagnon, an expert in biblical sexual morality.

“It will codify into law that you are a bigot, the moral equivalent of a racist, tantamount to being a member of the Klu Klux Klan, who must be shut out of society and, wherever possible, harassed and persecuted for your beliefs.”

In other words, it would criminalize Christianity,

Response: This is getting serious. There is no religious exemption in this bill. In fact that is the point- to subvert religious freedom and have it superseded by LGBT civil rights forcing change in the Christian community under the penalty of law; making Christian Biblical beliefs and practices subject to LGBT lawsuits.

Many contend that there is no real worry that this bill will become law since the Senate is still controlled by the GOP and President Trump is against it. However, the GOP has only a very slim 3 vote majority in the Senate. Also, some political observers contend that the bill could pass by merely adding an exemption for churches.

So this bill is still a real threat and Christians should flood the offices of their senators with their views on this legislation. If the bill passed with an exemption for churches (including synagogues and other worship centers), it would still leave individual Christians, Christian organizations, Christian schools, and non-profits subject to LGBT tyranny and the loss of religious liberty. Lawsuits would  follow and multiply on both sides.

A few years ago progressive LGBT activists started calling conservative Christians ‘bigots’ and ‘haters’ because of our prevailing Biblical stands on sexual morality and marriage. Now this bill represents a major attempt in Congress to codify that opinion and penalize Christians, businesses, organizations, schools and even churches who continue to stand by traditional Christian beliefs defined in the Bible.

Time to pray and take action.               *Top

The threat is not that this bill will become a law. The threat is that 2, or 5 or 8 years from now, the Democrats may have the votes in both houses (plus someone like Buttigieg in the White House, in which case a bill could be passed (and might even be more outrageous that this bill).

2nd comment: Here is the exact text of the “Equality Act” as it relates to religion:

“The Religious Freedom Restoration Act of 1993 (42 U.S.C. 2000bb et seq.) shall not provide a claim concerning, or a defense to a claim under, a covered title, or provide a basis for challenging the application or enforcement of a covered title.”.

In addition, the act is changing the list of facilities that would be:

    “in paragraph (3), by striking “stadium” and all that follows and inserting “stadium or other place of or establishment that provides exhibition, entertainment, recreation, exercise, amusement, public gathering, or public display;”;

Notice that the foregoing provision includes “public gatherings” and “Public displays”. It is difficult to conceive more expansive language than that. Heck if you have a Bible study in your own home, it could be found to be a “public gathering”. And, of course, all churches would be public gatherings and places of public display.

Also, the first “targets”, I submit would be church-run schools. We will see LGBT provocateurs applying for teaching positions in church schools as a deliberate tactic of subversion and destruction.

The churches themselves would be next.

Brian, I agree that this is just the beginning and Christians should be concerned about the future when congress folks take God out of the oaths and proclaim that the Creator no longer belongs in Congress. It could get a whole lot worse for Biblical Christians real fast.

I have read numerous editorials proclaiming that the Constitution should not apply to ‘hate speech’ or ‘hate groups.’ So the way forward to negate the First Amendment is already in serious discussion.
