-UC Berkeley: Student Senator Pressured To Resign Over Her Christian Beliefs

by Dr. D ~ November 13th, 2018

A student senator is being pressured to resign because she refused to vote for a resolution that was against her Christian beliefs. The resolution condemned a Trump administration proposal to limit the legal definition of “gender identity” under Title IX to physical sex.

Meanwhile the student has been called a ‘hater’ and a ‘bigot’ along with being ‘homophobic’ and ‘transphobic.’ In addition she has not been allowed to publish her response and her views in the campus newspaper and hundreds protested against her at the last student senate meeting. From the Daily Wire:

… Isabella Chow gave a statement explaining why she could not vote on the resolution because of her Christian beliefs:

“My God is one who assigns immeasurable value to and desires to love each and every human being. In God’s eyes and therefore my own, everyone of you here today and in the LGBTQ+ community as a whole is significant, valid, wanted, and loved — even if and when our views differ.

That said, I cannot vote for this bill without compromising my values and my responsibility to the community that elected me to represent them.

“As a Christian, I personally do believe that certain acts and lifestyles conflict with what is good, right, and true. I believe that God created male and female at the beginning of time, and designed sex for marriage between one man and one woman. For me, to love another person does not mean that I silently concur when, at the bottom of my heart, I do not believe that your choices are right or the best for you as an individual.”

Response: So much for free speech and respect for religious and minority views on the Berkeley campus. It is really telling that she was not even allowed to express her views, particularly on the campus publications. In effect, traditional Christian views on human sexuality and marriage were labeled as bigotry and hate and not appropriate or even worthy of consideration.

Perhaps if she had been a Muslim, holding similar views, her ‘non-action’ on the vote might have been ignored and her religious beliefs even honored. What we are dealing with here is a hierarchy of rights and popular PC dogmas. LGBTQ rights and considerations trump all others except maybe Islamophobia. Meanwhile, Christian beliefs and religious rights are increasingly being devalued, actively opposed, and disrespected.

Read the whole article and also this one from the Christian Post to get an idea of the growing trend toward discrimination against Christians who hold traditional Biblical views and how what I call ‘Christianophobia’ is being encouraged and condoned on American college campuses.               *Top
