-U.S. Civil Rights Chairman: ‘Religious Freedom’ Just a Code Word For Intolerance?

by Dr. D ~ September 13th, 2016

For several years now LGBT and gay activists have proclaimed that ‘religious liberty’ and ‘freedom of religion’ were just code words for intolerance and discrimination. Now a representative of the US government is saying the same thing. From the Washington Times:

The chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights said that “religious freedom” and “religious liberty” have become merely “code words” for intolerance… and thus they must yield before anti-discrimination laws.

…said Martin R. Castro, a Chicago Democrat named USCCR chairman by President Obama in 2011.

“Religious liberty was never intended to give one religion dominion over other religions, or a veto power over the civil rights and civil liberties of others,”

he said in the 307-page document.

At the heart of the “Peaceful Coexistence” report is a USCCR assertion that granting religious exemptions to nondiscrimination laws “significantly infringe” on the civil rights of those claiming civil rights protections on the basis of “race, color, national origin, sex, disability status, sexual orientation, and gender identity.”

Response: So we now have a 307 page government document defining how the First Amendment must be overthrown in favor of the new LGBT orthodoxy.

Note that the document and the US Civil Rights Chairman supports the banning of all religious exemptions. What this really means is that the government is going to launch a new campaign to force all churches and religious organizations to comply with LGBT accommodation laws regardless of any theology or religious teaching to the contrary. In effect, the government is going to define how churches and pastors should no longer act upon their Biblical teachings and beliefs but properly bow and conform their internal organizational policies to the new LGBT sexual orthodoxy.

This is already happening in Massachusetts. Look for other states to quickly get aboard the ‘accommodation with no exemptions’ train. Federal action is next depending upon the results of the election in November.

Every day I hear some Christian saying that they don’t intend to vote in the upcoming presidential election because of the two candidates. Elections do matter and Hillary Clinton has already declared that she supports forcing religious folks to change their beliefs.                *Top

You have commented, Dr. D, that the Obama administration’s agenda was to replace “freedom of religion” with “freedom of worship”, in that one would only be allowed to exercise one’s First Amendment rights within the four walls of a church.

This document seems to say that one cannot exercise one’s First Amendment rights, even within a church, if the secular society wishes to impose a particular value upon you. There is no limit, within the view of the drafters of this document to what the secular society or government can impose upon your religious beliefs, as long as the goal is to further certain selected “enlightened” social goals. Your religious freedom exists only at the sufferance of the sovereign – which is exactly the situation that existed in Colonial America that led to the adoption of the First Amendment.

Brian, I actually believe it is even more insidious. ‘Freedom of Worship’ will be allowed: churches and pastors will still be allowed to teach and preach what they want and churches can define there own theology. But their actions nevertheless must conform to the new orthodoxy.
