Iran has finally released American Pastor Saeed Abedini after three years in prison. Here’s the story from Christianity Today:

…  The Iranian-American pastor from Idaho, held for more than three years, was exchanged as part of a prisoner swap in which Iran released four people and the United States released seven.

"It is confirmed," his wife Naghmeh announced on Twitter. "Saeed is released from Iranian prison."

This has been an answer to prayer,”

she said in a press release from the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), one of Abedini’s leading advocates.

This is a critical time for me and my family. We look forward to Saeed’s return and want to thank the millions of people who have stood with us in prayer during this most difficult time.”

Response:It is a blessing to see this miscarriage of justice finally resolved. We have been following this story since the beginning. Originally it looked like Pastor Abedini would be hanged for his faith but international attention helped to bring his sentence down to 8 years in prison for supposedly “endangering national security.”

Pastor Abedini had been visiting relatives in Iran when he was arrested. No real reason was ever given for why he was detained except for ‘endangering national security” somehow. The facts are that the Christian pastor was visiting Christian relatives in the country at a time when revival was ongoing and Muslims in the country were converting to Christianity as never before.

The Iranian authorities may have been looking for a Christian leader that they could make an example of in order to slow down the growth of Christianity in the country. It has been said that the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei himself was involved in making decisions over Pastor Abedini’s sentencing and treatment.

Over the past 3 years Washington-based American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) along with Franklin Graham and his group have been running a campaign internationally to get the pastor released while supporting prayer vigils for Saeed and his family.               *Top
