-Oregon Bakers Send Out Free Cakes to LGBT Groups

The Oregon Bakers, who were fined $135,000 for refusing to make a cake for a same-sex wedding, have sent out some free cakes to LGBT groups around the country. The Christian couple, Aaron and Melissa Klein, sold cakes to everyone in the past but did not want to participate in a same-sex wedding since it was contrary to their religious beliefs.
In this case they are trying to reach out and show some love to LGBT groups and received mixed reactions in the process. Some were happy to get the free cakes and saw it as a opportunity for dialogue, others were concerned about their motives and saw it merely as a PR stunt. Here’s the story from The Blaze:
Gay rights organizations are responding in a variety of ways after Aaron and Melissa Klein, owners of the Sweetcakes by Melissa bakery, sent cakes and letters out to numerous LBGT groups in an effort to deliver what the Kleins contend was a powerful message about faith and freedom.
…the Kleins,…shipped the care package out last week along with gift cards and copies of “Audacity,” evangelist Ray Comfort’s controversial film about homosexuality.
From immensely skeptical to very thankful, recipients’ responses have run the gamut from negative to positive.
Response: Actually I believe that this is a positive move by the Kleins intended to demonstrate both their concern for others and their Christian convictions.
It can be viewed as nothing but a publicity stunt but I believe it goes beyond that. I believe it was their intention to reach out in love to those who are on the ‘other side’ and explain their actions. Like most Christians, they want others to understand that it is not about hate or discrimination (since they have sold to the same couple before that sued them) but completely about their religious beliefs. *Top
