-Why is the U.S. Discriminating Against Iraqi Christian Immigrants Fleeing ISIS?

The Obama administration is going out of its way to accept illegal immigrants from Latin America, even unaccompanied underage children by the thousands. Also there has been an open door for the thousands of Muslims fleeing ‘oppressive’ governments in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Why then is the U.S. government discriminating against Iraqi Christians fleeing ISIS who want to come to America?

In May, an Anglican Bishop tried to arrange for the immigration of Iraqi Christians fleeing persecution from ISIS but was turned away by the Obama State Department. Also in May, an Iraqi Christian nun wanted to come to America to gain for support for her people and talk to Congress but was initially denied a visa until public outrage forced a change. Meanwhile, another delegation of religious leaders including representatives from the Muslim Shia, Yazidi and Turkmen communities seeking support against ISIS had no problems at all in getting visas? The only ones who were denied visas were the Christian community representatives in their delegation.

The most egregious example of discrimination by the Obama administration against Iraqi Christians is the on-going 4 month incarceration of 20 Iraqi Chaldean Christian immigrants. Here’s the story from the Christian Post:

Despite having family members to sponsor them, a group of 20 Chaldean Christians who fled ISIS have been detained for over four months at the Otay Detention Facility in San Diego. The large Chaldean community in Southern California are unhappy with the unexplained delays and are demanding their release. …

Mark Arabo, an activist and spokesmen for the local Chaldean community says, "What we do know is that they are being held without a real reason." …

Faith, McDonnell, director of religious liberty at the Institute on Religion & Democracy told The Christian Post the detainment is "a disturbing pattern" by the State Department.

"The fact that these asylum seekers are Christians and not Muslim…This follows the disturbing pattern that we have seen from the State Department of ignoring the particular targeting of Christians by ISIS," said McDonnell, "while giving preferential treatment for asylum to other groups with expedited processing — like Somalis, Iraqis, and Syrians, some of whom could very well be members of jihadist movements."

Response: These examples call into question an Obama State Department policy which seems to target and discriminate against Christians?

Why are Muslims with possible terrorist connections given preference over Christians fleeing persecution and death? Why are 20 Chaldean Christians still being held after 4 months in San Diego even though they have family members and a large local Chaldean community to support them?  Meanwhile literally hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants from Latin America have been turned loose almost immediately by this administration on their own recognizance?

For some reason the Obama administration seems to be discriminating against Near Eastern Christians hoping to flee persecution and immigrate to the US. Meanwhile Muslims from the same areas seem to receive preference. When questioned about this ‘policy’ the administration has refused to comment.               *Top
