-UK Sharia Judge: ‘We Can’t Ask Muslims Not to Have More than One Wife’

by Dr. D ~ July 6th, 2015

And so it begins. There is a polygamous family in Montana trying to apply for a marriage license and seeking ‘marriage equality’ for three. Also there are literally hundreds of articles on the internet asking why polygamy or polyamory should not now be also a civil right after the recent Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage. Then there is a sharia judge in the UK declaring outright that Muslim plural marriages should be legal. From Breitbart London:

Britain’s first female sharia law judge has issued a brazen warning that flies in the face of UK law, stating that the “government cannot ask Muslims not to have more than one wife”.

The news comes on the back of a report by the Times newspaper which claims that Britain is experiencing a “surge” in Sharia marriages…The Times reports:

“As many as 100,000 couples are living in such marriages, which are not valid under UK law, experts said. Ministers have raised fears that women can be left without the right to a fair share of assets if the relationship ends, while others are forced to return to abusive “husbands”.”

…  Muslim women who enter into marriage in Islamic ceremonies are often duped into thinking that the marriage under Islamic law is enough to protect them under UK law. As such, they receive none of the usual protections under UK law, such as assets being divided in cases of divorce.

Response: And so it begins. Conservative Christians who warned that same-sex marriage would open the door to other types of ‘marriage’ possibilities including polygamy and polyamory were ridiculed. However, the same rationale and legal understanding that found a right for same-sex marriage in the 14th Amendment is now being appealed to by those who want to expand ‘marriage equality’ to include polygamy and polyamory.

Fact is, there are right now hundreds of polygamous families living in FLDS (Fundamentalist Mormon) compounds and communities in the USA. Also there are hundreds of polygamous Muslim immigrant families that are living here like they are in the UK. Polygamous marriages that were officiated in mosques or in Muslim countries.

The Supreme Court ruling really does open the door to the legalization of polygamy and polyamory. Already a federal court has struck down a state law against polygamy in Utah. However there may not be the cultural support for it. We now live in a ‘post-Christian’ era in the West so there really are no philosophical reasons for or against this expansion other than the sensibilities of the majority or in reality the majority of state and federal judges and ultimately the Supreme Court justices.              *Top

In the US (and probably in other countries such as the UK), polygamous marriages have been unwittingly subsidized by the taxpayer. The second “wife” of an FLDS man would apply for government aid under programs designed to benefit single mothers, and would get the whole array of federal benefits (food stamps, welfare, Medicaid, etc).

In addition, the FLDS has been in the habit of expelling most teenage boys from their community on various pretexts. These kids end up on the street, and end up being supported by government benefits.

I imagine something similar is happening with Sharia wives.

In San Diego there are over a hundred thousand immigrants from the Middle East. It is a fact that many families immigrated with a wife’s ‘sister’ who likewise applied for government assistance as ‘single’ mothers while still living with the rest.

It is even worse in the UK, France, and other European countries where the majority of Muslim families do not have jobs but are being subsidized by the state. In some ways it can be claimed that radical Islam is being supported by the West since quite a few radical groups including ISIS are receiving funds from some of those same Muslim immigrants.
