-Christians in America Facing a ‘Bonhoeffer Moment’?

by Dr. D ~ June 18th, 2015

    (Dietrich Bonhoeffer)

At the Southern Baptist Convention this week, SBA President Ronnie Floyd challenged the conferees to face up and respond to the changes in our nation and culture as a "Bonhoeffer moment" by refusing to be silenced. Floyd cited the example of the German theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who stood up to the Nazi regime and said the following in his book The Cost of Discipleship:

"Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act."

Major changes are in store for our nation if the Supreme Court rules in favor of same-sex marriage. Nevertheless, the America church and American Christians must continue to stand up for what we believe and refuse to go silently into the  night or be cowed to walk away from the challenge.

There are those who would take our freedoms away. To restrict us from publically living and expressing our faith in our work, our businesses, and our daily lives. Some would like to limit our religious liberty to the four walls of an official place of worship. Many would like to force us to change and reflect the ideals of our current culture. We are now living in a time when some of the things which Christians have traditionally called good and righteous are now called bad and some things we consider evil are now good in our culture.

The SBC voted this week to honor God and his word as the final authority regardless of any ruling by our government authorities or the Supreme Court over our land. Also regardless of the main stream media and any cultural considerations that many might consider to be important. It is time for every church and Christian in America to follow their example and stand up for our beliefs and declare where we stand regardless of the consequences while it is yet day. This is not a time to be silent, our ‘Bonhoeffer moment’ is upon us. If not today, when?                *Top

I am coming from germany and Dietrich Bonhoeffer is one of my favourite Christians.
I know, that he was in America and was very poud to have had this spirituell time.
I think, this great time gave him his inspiration to be this wonderful person in this bad-time-germany.
As I read, that you ask the question, if America is in a Bonhoeffer moment, I ask myself…what is with Germany …with the whole world?
And I find this answer for me:
YES! We must proof our faith, pray deeper, be deeper with jesus, be brave in jesus, be with the holy ghost.

May the lord have mercy on us and help us through this faithless times, today and the times that will sure comes around.

Thanks for this Bonhoeffermoment in time
    be blessed
    special greets from Germany

Thanks for visiting and thanks for your comments. I studied Bonhoeffer in Seminary and he is one of my heroes. His example and teaching was timeless for Christians and should cross time and culture. Christians around the world have challenges that his writing speaks to in this generation.
