A judge in the Netherlands ordered a dementia patient to be killed over the objections of the medical staff caring for the woman. Here’s the story from Charisma News:

A judge in the Netherlands has allowed an 80-year-old woman to be euthanized, …the woman was living in a dementia care home…

Medical staff treating her fought against the decision, but a judge rejected the appeal…Last month she was removed from the care home and killed by the Life End Clinic, which was started by activists to make euthanasia more accessible for people in the Netherlands.

Response: This is a direction we could be headed in America as states seek to accommodate euthanasia for seriously ill patients. The problem is, where do you draw the line?

In the Netherlands, most doctors now believe that patients suffering from dementia are possible candidates for euthanasia. In the beginning it was supposed to be only a last course of action for ‘terminal’ patients. Now it has been expanded to include ‘quality of life’ patients like those suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s. Patients who cannot stand up for themselves.

What will be included later? Already there are reports in the Netherlands that numerous folks have received assisted suicide who were only suffering from being ‘aged, lonely or bereaved.’ In this case a patient was killed over the objections of the medical staff.  A judge became the go to arbiter of life and death instead of the doctors as originally intended by the law.

What is now happening in the Netherlands is somewhat reminiscent of the fears expressed by some concerning the possible remedies that Obamacare (Death Panels) might ultimately force upon the elderly in America.               *Top
