A Pennsylvania County Council would like to put up a plaque in the county courthouse featuring the national motto:

“In God We Trust”

Meanwhile an out of state atheist group and at least one local politician is objecting to the plan and insisting that the motto does not belong on public property:

“It is inappropriate for the County Council to adopt a proposal that would place ‘In God We Trust’ on the county’s courthouse,” Freedom From Religion Foundation co-president Annie Laurie Gaylor wrote in a September 3 letter to the council. “Statements about a god have no place in government buildings.”

Response: Another battle over the national motto.  So ‘statements about God have no place in government buildings?’ Makes we wonder if any of these FFRF folks have ever been to Washington DC and read the hundreds of references to God on the monuments and buildings at our national capitol including the Supreme Court building? Even the Jefferson monument has references to ‘the Creator’ made by one of the major heroes of the secularists.

Recently the Supreme Court ruled that prayers that mentioned God could continue to be given at government meetings so how can displaying the national motto on public buildings be unconstitutional? If so then the Supreme Court chambers and building itself would have to be remodeled or torn down. That is not going to happen anytime soon- hopefully.            *Top
