The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed a lawsuit by an theist group to have the ‘Ground Zero’ Cross’ removed from the 9/11 museum. Here’s the story from the Huffington Post:
A cross-shaped beam from the wreckage of the World Trade Center can remain on display in the National Sept. 11 Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero, a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled, dismissing a lawsuit brought by atheists.
American Atheists filed a federal suit in 2012 claiming the 17-foot display at the museum built with a mix of public and private funds was unconstitutional. The group said its members suffered from both physical and emotional damages from the presence of the beamed cross, resulting in headaches, indigestion and mental pain.
Response: I get it that atheists do not like religion but the Ground Zero Cross is part of the story that the museum is trying to document and display. Must history be re-written in order to satisfy a small group’s oversensitivity and a their activist re-interpretation of the 1st amendment? I don’t think so.
A lower court said no and now a higher appeals court has also followed suit. I really doubt that SCOTUS would take up the case if it should be appealed further so this should stand. *Top
