-Support For Radical Islamists Declining Among Muslims?

A survey conducted by Pew Research in 14 Muslim countries indicates that the support for radical Islamist groups is declining among Muslims. This probably reflects the fact that most of the time other Muslims are the victims of Islamist group activity.


Here’s the story from Pew:

As well-publicized bouts of violence, from civil war to suicide bombings, plague the Middle East, Africa and South Asia, concern about Islamic extremism is high among countries with substantial Muslim populations, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center. And in the Middle East, concern is growing. Lebanese, Tunisians, Egyptians, Jordanians and Turks are all more worried about the extremist threat than they were a year ago.

Response: Fortunately the trend is going in the right direction. However, in light of the hundreds of millions represented in these countries, support (or ‘unconcern’) for the radicals would still seem to be in the millions.

It would also be interesting to see some numbers for American and European Muslims with recent reports showing some young Muslims from the West traveling to the Middle East to join with radical groups.             *Top
