The Obama Administration HHS became infamous for trying to force Christian businesses and institutions to pay for contraceptives and abortifacients through insurance. Now the Department of Health and Human Services has declared that they intend to use taxpayer money to pay for sex-change operations. Here’s the story from Citizen Link:
A department of the federal government said on Friday that taxpayer funds will cover “sex-reassignment” surgeries.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) says Medicare funds will pay for it. HHS claims these operations are “medically necessary.”
Paul McHugh, a psychiatry professor at Johns Hopkins University, disagrees. In an article for First Things, he said that such surgical alterations “collaborate with a mental disorder, rather than treat it.” …
Such operations can cost up to $50,000.
Response: Should the American people have to pay for these? According to Obama’s HHS administrators they are “medically necessary”? What do you think? The following is my take:
This is an ideological decision that could cost the taxpayers 100’s of millions per year at a time when the US government is already so far in the hole that our grandchildren’s children will still be paying for it all in the distant future. Meanwhile there are many experts that question whether these kind of operations really help at all. Nevertheless, the LGBT lobby is extremely influential and successful in getting support for their wants and activist issues within the Obama administration. *Top

[…] Response: The scope and over reach of this policy is astounding. While there were some provisions to supposedly protect religious liberty, the question remains whether hospitals affiliated with religious organizations and their doctors will actually be exempt. For sure they will not be saved from potential lawsuits from patients demanding them to perform these tax supported and paid for procedures. […]
