-UPDATE: Houston Passes Transgender ‘Special Rights’ Ordinance

Here’s an update on the ‘Transgender Restroom Choice’ issue we posted on earlier this week.  Houston, Texas became the first major city in America to require businesses to make allowance for transgender restroom choice. The City Council went ahead and passed the special rights ordinance on Wednesday over the objections of thousands of citizens and business owners.

Not only does the new law force businesses to allow folks to choose what restroom or locker room they may want to use but a more punitive section that was not publicized all that much will force business owners to participate in same-sex ceremonies regardless of religious convictions or beliefs. Here’s the story from Citizen Link:

The Houston City Council approved an ordinance Wednesday that will force businesses to allow people to use the restroom of their choice, based on what gender they “feel” they are. This means men will be able to use women’s restrooms, and vice versa.

The ordinance will also force businesses to support same-sex ceremonies. Mayor Annise Parker, who is openly gay, said the law will be used to prosecute photographers and other businesses owners who refuse to participate in such events — even if it’s because of their religious beliefs.  …

Response: The ordinance was advertised as a ‘transgender issue’ but the real intent was to trump the religious rights of business owners in the city and force them to participate in homosexual and LGBT events including same-sex ceremonies. The mayor was very clear that it would be used to prosecute photographers, cake makers, and others who refused their services. So much for freedom of religion and the toleration of traditional Biblical views in the city of Houston.

Last Sunday 2,500 pastors and concerned citizens rallied against the ordinance when it became clear that conservative Christians were being specifically targeted by this new law in addition to overriding conflicting rights to privacy and safety.             *Top
