-Religious Freedom: “Countries of Particular Concern”

There are 8 nations on the current US State Department’s list of “Countries of Particular Concern” when it comes to religious freedom:

Burma, China, Eritrea, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Uzbekistan

The dirty little secret is that the list has not changed since Obama became president and the current administration even tried at one point to eliminate the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom which is sponsored by Congress and issues a yearly report on the status of religious freedom around the world.

The current report that was released on April 30 shows at least 16 countries that probably should be on the list but it is doubtful the Sec. Kerry will expand the official list or even acknowledge its existence since ‘religious freedom’ has not been one of the administration’s major concerns internationally.

Here are the 8 that the latest USCIRF report suggests as additions to the CPC list:

Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Egypt, Syria,  Iraq, Nigeria and Tajikistan

The report further concluded that the current administration has “provided little incentive for CPC-designated governments to reduce or halt egregious violations of religious freedom.”

For details on why each of these countries are on the list read the whole report.

Response:  One thing I noticed right away about this report and those in the recent past is that nearly all on the list are Muslim dominated countries except for China, North Korea, and Vietnam which are Communist. In fact nearly all of those in the top 50 worst nations when it comes to religious freedom recognize Islam as their state religion. There I go again being ‘Islamophobic’ or maybe it is the truth that should be characterized as problematic?             *Top
