-Tony Blair: West Needs to Focus on the Growing Threat of Radical Islam

by Dr. D ~ April 24th, 2014

               (Tony Blair:: Wikipedia)

In a series of recent speeches, former UK PM Tony Blair singled out radical Islam as the greatest threat to world peace and the Western world. He called on nations around the world to combine their efforts in confronting it wherever it may be found by supporting religious freedom.

He noted that the supposed democracy that followed the Arab Spring ended with a tyranny of the majority and the establishment of radical sharia law. In final analysis religious liberty was lost as radical Islamists won most of the elections which followed.

Here are a few poignant quotes from the former PM:

”The threat of this radical Islam is not abating. It is growing. It is spreading across the world.

”It is destabilising communities and even nations. It is undermining the possibility of peaceful coexistence in an era of globalisation.

”And in the face of this threat we seem curiously reluctant to acknowledge it and powerless to counter it effectively.”  …

”We have to elevate the issue of religious extremism to the top of the agenda,” he will say.

”All over the world the challenge of defeating this ideology requires active and sustained engagement.

”Consider this absurdity: that we spend billions of dollars on security arrangements and on defence to protect ourselves against the consequences of an ideology that is being advocated in the formal and informal school systems and in civic institutions of the very countries with whom we have intimate security and defence relationships. …

”This struggle between what we may call the open-minded and the closed-minded is at the heart of whether the 21st century turns in the direction of peaceful coexistence or conflict between people of different cultures.” …

”The important point for Western opinion is that this is a struggle with two sides. …

”It is in fact a struggle in which our own strategic interests are intimately involved; where there are indeed people we should support and who, ironically, are probably in the majority if only that majority were mobilised, organised and helped.

”But what is absolutely necessary is that we first liberate ourselves from our own attitude. We have to take sides. We have to stop treating each country on the basis of whatever seems to make for the easiest life for us at any one time. We have to have an approach to the region that is coherent and sees it as a whole. And above all, we have to commit. We have to engage.”

Response: Amen! One would hope that leaders in America would also see the light and step up to the challenge. As Blair says- radical Islam is a threat that most refuse to even acknowledge. This is particularly true of the current US administration. Soon Iran may have nuclear capabilities because the Obama administration refuses to take the stated religious goals and threats of the Iranian leaders seriously.

As Blair says our attitudes need to change. One of the biggest stories today in America demonstrates that problem. A group of religious leaders are complaining about a film that is part of the new presentation at the 9/11 museum at the site of the World Trade center where almost 3,000 people died. The film recognizes that radical Islam provided the motivation behind the actions of the al Qaeda terrorists. But that truth needs to be glossed over and hidden according the American Muslim leaders because from their perspective it slanders Islam and may put Muslims in danger.

The fact is on every turn there has been a concerted effort by leaders in America to obscure the place of radical Islam in providing the philosophical basis and motivation for Islamist terror and the persecution of Christians around the world. It is time for the truth to prevail and for a stand to be taken before it is too late.             *Top
