-Air Force Academy: Bible Verse Removed from Cadet’s Dorm Room Door

by Dr. D ~ March 12th, 2014

The Cadet Chapel at United States Air Force Ac...

(US Air Force Academy Chapel: Wikipedia)

At the Air Force Academy each cadet has a dry erase board on the door outside of their dorm room for notes and messages.

One cadet had his favorite bible verse written on his board until the Academy received a complaint and it was removed.

Here’s the story from Citizen Link:

Following a complaint from an outside source, the Air Force Academy erased a cadet’s Bible verse from a dry erase board outside his dorm room. A legal group is already investigating. …

The cadet wrote on his door Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ therefore I no longer live, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”

The decision to remove the verse came in response to a complaint from Mikey Weinstein, president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. …

…the cadets are starting to ask questions. And, in response to the incident, about 15 to 20 of them began writing verses on their own doors.

Here are two more articles on this same situation:

From Fox News: “Air Force Academy removes Bible verse from cadet’s whiteboard

From The Blaze: “Some Air Force Cadets So Angry Over What Happened With Bible Verses on Campus They Have Staged a ‘Revolt’

Response: This is another situation where Mikey Weinstein and his organization has over reacted and over reached. It is one thing to support religious freedom for everyone and another thing entirely to do what Weinstein and his misnamed organization continue to try to do- eliminate any outward trace of Christianity from the armed forces and particularly from the Air Force Academy.

In this case the white boards are for personal use in the dorms. In reaction to the Weinstein complaint, 29 cadets along with 4 from the faculty and staff have responded by putting up Bible and Quran verses on their own boards. See some samples in the Blaze.

Now Weinstein is even more insistent that it is a violation and must come down:

“It clearly elevated one religious faith over all others at an already virulently hyper-fundamentalist Christian institution. It massively poured fundamentalist Christian gasoline on an already raging out-of-control conflagration of fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism and supremacy at [the academy].”

Wow, really? Many at the Academy disagree that it is a violation of any kind. Also, most would find Weinstein’s claim laughable that the Air Force Academy is a “virulently hyper-fundamentalist Christian institution” that is “an already raging out-of-control conflagration of fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism and supremacy”?

Sounds like the typical Weinstein over reaction to me. Particularly in light of the boards which featured quotes from the Quran. I wonder how long military officials will continue to listen and give any credence to his continual over-the-top rants and vendetta against Christians in the military?                 *Top

“virulently hyper-fundamentalist Christian institution” that is “an already raging out-of-control conflagration of fundamentalist Christian tyranny, exceptionalism and supremacy”?

If there is such Christian domination at the Air Force Academy, would Mr. Weinstein please care to explain why the Academy removed the Bible verse from the cadet’s door?
