-Update: Dept. of Homeland Security Will Allow German Homeschooling Family to Stay
by Dr. D ~ March 5th, 2014
One day after the Supreme Court refused to consider the asylum case of the Romeikes, the German homeschooling family, the Department of Homeland Security has decided to allow them to stay in the USA after all. Here’s the story from the Citizen Link:
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will allow a German homeschooling family, who has long been seeking asylum in the U.S., to stay in the country. This comes just one day after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the family’s case. …
HSLDA started a petition in 2013 urging the administration to let the family stay in the United States. More than 127,000 people signed it.
“We believe that the public outcry made a huge impact,” Farris explained. “What an amazing turnaround — in just 24 hours.”
DHS granted the family “indefinite deferred status.”
Response: This is really great news. The Obama administration had received a huge amount of criticism over this case including some from this site. Plus over 120,000 had petitioned the White House site in support of this family. For once the administration listened to the people. It is really good to see mercy extended to the Romeikes. *Top
