-Lack of Media Response to Monitor Proposal?

by Dr. D ~ February 25th, 2014

        (Fox News Channel: Wikipedia)

The founding fathers considered a free press to be essential in retaining freedom. They took care to guarantee free speech and freedom of the press right at the beginning of the Bill of Rights.

It is doubtful that they would have ever expected that in a future generation the press itself would become so unified philosophically that it would be almost tantamount to a surrendering of that freedom. That the press itself would become so much a part of a particular progressive agenda put forth by one political party and a presidential administration that the safeguards of freedom put in place in the Constitution would actually be in jeopardy.

Case in point. We now have a President that has exceeded his Constitutional authority on many occasions but the dutiful major media has become his cheerleaders rather than doing the job of pointing out those obvious deviations. During the Bush years the major media was front and center pointing out every possible Constitutional problem with actions and decisions of that more conservative administration. Now last week a FCC proposal to ‘monitor’ major media stories was exposed but the MSM basically ignored the story. It would be a direct challenge to the freedom of the press but the major media was not even concerned. Why?

One can only conclude that the major media did not really believe that the threat of monitors was directed toward them. It is as if the only MSM response was a knowing wink and nod with an assured expectation that conservative media like Fox News and talk radio would finally be forced to join in lockstep with everyone else. That the ‘monitor’ proposal was merely the latest manifestation of the ‘fairness doctrine’ which would force the ‘right-wing’ competition to change or get off the air.

There was another explanation of the media lack of response made by John Nolte a Breitbart contributor.  He pointed out that George Soros was behind the study and the major media is not only on the same page philosophically with Soros but beholding to his many monetary contributions and support.

There is also another reason to believe that the whole ‘monitor’ threat was really only directed to more conservative news outlets. During President Obama’s recent interview with Fox’s Bill O’Reilly he questioned Bill’s ‘fairness’ but also Fox’s choice of stories:

O’REILLY – Give me how I’m unfair. Come on, you can’t make that accusation without telling me.

PRESIDENT OBAMA – Bill — we’ve just run through an interview in which you asked about health, uh, health care not working, IRS where-where we, uh, wholly corrupt, Benghazi —

O’REILLY – All right.

PRESIDENT OBAMA – Right, so the list of issues that you talk about —

O’REILLY [OVERLAP] – But these are unanswered questions —

PRESIDENT OBAMA – Yeah, but-but-but they’re defined by you guys in a certain way. But this — look, this is okay. This-this is —

This is just a small taste of how the president feels about Fox News and their choice of stories. I believe that it does give a clue to where the ‘monitor’ proposal was destined to be applied and that the major media was in the know to such a degree that they were not concerned but actually in agreement with its possible application to the more conservative competition.             *Top
