The violence against Christians continues unabated in 2014 particularly in Nigeria and Syria. Every week there are articles about Christians being persecuted and slaughtered around the world and nearly every week this is a common place happening in Nigeria.

This week Islamic terrorists broke up a church service and killed 22 worshipers and then later burned down a entire Christian village bringing the total carnage for the rampage to nearly 100 killed. Here’s the story from BosNewsLife:

ABUJA, NIGERIA (BosNewsLife)– Christians in Nigeria were mourning their dead Tuesday, January 27, after nearly 100 people were killed by suspected Islamic militants in the country’s troubled northeast, including at a church service.
The fighters, who were believed to be members of the Islamist group Boko Haram, killed 22 people by setting off bombs and firing into the congregation in the Catholic church of Waga Chakawa village in Adamawa state on Sunday, January 25, officials said.
Soon after, they began burning houses and taking residents hostage during a four-hour siege, in which reportedly many more died.  …

"The whole village has been razed by Boko Haram and there were still loud explosions from different directions as I left, with bodies littering the village," said resident Bulama Kuliri, who narrowly escaped, in an interview with Reuters news agency.

Response: Sadly we could report on similar actions all around the world against Christians nearly every day. This week the violence centered in Nigeria but also there were stories from Syria, Egypt, and Sudan. The ‘New Age of Martyrs’ continues in 2014. Meanwhile most Western and American Christians are confortable and face only minor loses of religious freedom and cultural slights and call it persecution. Most are unaware of the millions of Christians being targeted for violence around the world particularly in Muslim dominated nations.

At the very least we should be praying for our brothers and sisters facing ‘real’ persecution every day of their lives. A good start in 2014 would be for us to make a habit of linking to the Open Doors website and find those who are desperately in need of our prayers and assistance.          *Top
