-School Takes Baby Jesus Out of ‘Silent Night’?

by Dr. D ~ December 21st, 2013

Here’s a rendition of the traditional Christmas carol ‘Silent Night’ done by a school choir with all references to Baby Jesus and the virgin Mary removed. Here’s the story from the Blaze:

A Long Island, N.Y., school district has apologized after it came under fire following a fifth grade choir’s removal of some key lyrics from the traditional Christmas song “Silent Night.”

Many of the religious lines that point to the very heart of the Christmas season were simply axed from the students’ Dec. 12 performance at Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School.

“Christ the Savior is born,” “Holy infant so, tender and mild,” “round yon virgin, mother and child” and “Jesus, Lord at thy birth” were strategically removed from the student rendition; the lyrics were simply deleted and nothing replaced them.

Response: I wonder who thought this was a good idea. This is taking Christ out of ‘Christmas’ to another level entirely.

Just listen to the performance. The lyrics are totally meaningless without any reference to baby Jesus even if the tune is still there and the choir sounds good. It does give us a real taste of how futile and utterly meaningless the whole exercise of Christmas might be without Christ.

Also goes to show that a higher education does not necessarily make one wise. Case in point- the teachers and principal at Ralph J. Osgood Intermediate School.            *Top
