Yesterday the House of Commons (UK) spent 3 hours of their valuable time exploring and debating the current rampant escalation of the persecution and killing of Christians around the world in the beginning of the 21st century.

Here’s the story from Christian Solidarity Worldwide:

Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) warmly welcomes yesterday’s three-hour debate in the House of Commons on the persecution of Christians in the 21st century, and the calls made by several Members of Parliament for the issue to be given much greater attention.

The debate focused on the persecution of Christians around the world, including countries such as Pakistan, India, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Nigeria, China, North Korea, Burma, Eritrea and Iran.

Several MPs highlighted the severity of the persecution of Christians around the world in passionate and detailed speeches. Sir Tony Baldry MP (Conservative, Banbury) described the scale and severity of the situation, saying: “There is now practically no country—from Morocco to Pakistan—in which Christians can freely practise their religion. That must be a matter of real concern to this House. There is a severe danger, as we start to celebrate the feast of Christmas in this country, that Christianity will be almost completely erased from the traditional middle east Holy Land of the Bible.

Response: At least one Western government seems to be taking all of the evidence of the current worldwide persecution of Christians seriously.

Unfortunately there is very little indication that the Obama administration is really concerned about this issue. Recently when they were negotiating with the Iranian government the issue of Christians in Iranian prisons was apparently not even mentioned even though they are still holding an American citizen- Pastor Saeed Abedini in prison for sharing the Christian faith.

Here’s a link to my recent series on the escalation of persecution and killing of Christians in the last 10 years:
