Three more ‘faith-based’ Christian ministry groups have filed suit against the Obama administration HHS Mandate. The administration has given a pass to churches but non-profit ministries are still required to follow the mandate and provide health insurance that include access to abortion, abortifacients, and contraceptives regardless of their beliefs and missions. From Citizen Link:
Three nonprofit faith-based organizations filed a class-action lawsuit Friday against a government mandate requiring them to offer potential abortion-inducing drugs in their employee health plans.
“The government’s refusal to treat these ministries as ‘religious employers’ is senseless,” said Mark Rienzi, senior counsel for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. The legal firm is representing the groups along with the national law firm Locke Lord LLP.
The organizations include:
Reaching Souls International, an evangelical ministry dedicated to caring for orphans in Africa, India and Cuba
Truett-McConnell College, a Georgia Baptist college dedicated to equipping students to make disciples of Christ among the nations
GuideStone Financial Resources, the benefits arm of the Southern Baptist Convention
“These people spend their lives teaching and preaching their religious faith,” Rienzi explained. “If they do not qualify as ‘religious employers,’ the government needs to get a new definition.”
Response: The battle against the Obama administration for religious freedom continues. Our Constitutional freedoms continue to be challenged by this administration which is trying to re-define religious freedom and religious conscience in such a narrow way that if they are successful the 1st amendment will be meaningless outside the 4 walls of a church or official house of worship.
Eventually the Supreme Court will need to rule on the HHS Mandate and the way it is being used to assail religious freedom in this country. What is so disconcerting to me is the fact that so few in America especially in the conservative Christian community see the real dangers that this mandate actually poses to our freedoms. *Top
