-A Gay Strategy to Change the Attitude of Christians Toward Homosexuality

For many years gay activists have been involved in changing the dominant culture into one which is accepting toward homosexuality and the LGBT lifestyle.
Hollywood and the media have been involved in that battle which seems to be nearly won except for one large group which continues to be a holdout to that change- conservative Bible believing Christians.
Now a gay Christian has recently held a training conference for bringing change within the church itself. The purpose was to train activists on how to convince Bible believing Christians from within the church that the scriptures don’t really oppose homosexuality and the gay lifestyle after all but only immoral excesses. Apparently the teaching has gained some traction except when it comes to trained Bible scholars and theologians. Here’s the story from the Christian Post:
Fifty hand-picked Christians were part of a seminal conference last week planned by Matthew Vines, a 23-year-old gay Christian who believes Scripture allows for monogamous homosexual activity, in an effort to spread the idea in the American church over the next decade.
Vines says he has had success in convincing lay members of churches over the last year that monogamous homosexual activity is allowed by Scripture, but is encountering resistance from Scriptural scholars. He is likely to encounter much more, say theologians. …
"The goal of the conference was to be training Christians who are in churches that don’t currently support LGBT people and to give them the biblical tools and knowledge that they need to go back to their churches and have constructive, persuasive conversations with other believers on these issues," Vines told CP.
Response: The Bible believing Christian community is the last bastion for LGBT folks to overcome before achieving complete cultural acceptance. The only way that I can see complete acceptance for homosexuality happening in the church is for a departure from traditional Biblical teaching and scriptural authority. This has already happened in the mainline churches which turned their back on the full authority and inspiration of the Bible a generation ago.
Even in churches that believe in the authority of the Bible polls have shown that their young people are far more accepting of the LGBT lifestyle and that the majority of younger Christians under 30 now actually support same-sex marriage.
What this says about the future of the church in America is hard to determine at this time. The majority of Christians might well turn their back upon the teachings of the Bible in spite of the fact that trained Bible scholars and theologians are not going along with this new perspective. It has happened in Christendom before and God had to send a Martin Luther to begin the long road back toward Biblical literacy. Or this could be another sign that we may well be in the last of the ‘last days’ when even many of the faithful are fooled. *Top
