The San Antonio (Texas) City Council is considering an ordinance that could ban conservative Christians from serving and working in the city government. From Citizen Link:
In early August, the City Council will consider an ordinance to add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the discrimination ordinances in the city code.
The proposal would ban anyone that has ever opposed (“demonstrated bias, by word or deed…”) homosexuality from being involved in city government and/or performing a city contract/subcontract. The proposed ordinance provides no exemptions for religious beliefs on homosexuality, even beliefs expressed in Church.
Response: This is one of the most serious potential attacks against religious freedom and liberty ever. Not only does it violate the First amendment of the US Constitution but the Texas Religious Freedom Act. Fortunately there is still time to head it off.
Even more outrageous is the fact that the proposed ordinance would define a de facto ‘religious test’ for involvement in city government. A test that would seem to eliminate all conservative Christians who believe in the teaching of the Bible and/or anyone who has ever at anytime in the past publically agreed with the traditional Christian Biblical teaching on homosexuality.
All I can say is: “Remember the Alamo” –a Christian mission and a place where people fought and died for liberty and for what they believed in. *Top
