Dubai authorities have now decided to pardon the Norwegian woman who was sentenced to 16 month in prison for getting raped.

Over the weekend,  the 24-year-old Marte Deborah Dalelv was interviewed by a number of different Western reporters in order to warn women about the severe potential treatment of women in Dubai.

Following the uproar of negative publicity and the pressure put on them by the Norwegian government the Dubai government has returned Dalelv’s passport and now she is free to leave the country. She received an official pardon from Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum. Here’s the story.

Response: This demonstrates the importance of world opinion and pressure coming to bear upon a outlandish sharia medieval law. Notice however that the law has not been changed and women in that country and many other Muslim countries still face inequality and severe archaic penalties under the law.            *Top
