-Is The Obama Administration Authorizing Defacto ‘Blasphemy Laws’ to Protect Islam?

Is the Obama administration in the process of authorizing and defining new ‘blasphemy laws’ by executive action to protect Islam in America?

Most would say that it would be contrary to the First Amendment of the Constitution to publically define and act on any kind of ‘blasphemy laws’ that would prohibit negative discussion or criticism of Islam. In the past President Obama himself has noted that he could do nothing against folks like Terry Jones who publically burned Qurans and genuinely seemed upset by that limitation.

Nevertheless, the administration found a way to put the ‘anti-Muhammad’ movie producer back in jail and boast about it to Muslim allies in the Middle East. Now has the administration found a way to implement defacto ‘blasphemy laws’? An administration U. S. Attorney in Tennessee is saying that he plans on restricting offensive writings and speech against Islam using ‘civil rights’ statutes. Here’s the story from Politico:

A U.S. attorney in Tennessee is reportedly vowing to use federal civil rights statutes to clamp down on offensive and inflammatory speech about Islam.

Bill Killian, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, was quoted by the Tullahoma News this week suggesting that some inflammatory material on Islam might run afoul of federal civil rights laws.

"We need to educate people about Muslims and their civil rights, and as long as we’re here, they’re going to be protected," Killian told the newspaper.  …

The Department of Justice did not respond Friday to a question about what guidelines it draws concerning offensive speech and Islam, or whether the department believes that civil rights statutes could be used to stifle criticism of Islam.

Response: I believe that this administration is constantly probing and initiating ‘trial balloons’ to test the public response to controversial issues that they would like to promote or address. They always initiate it through some remote official far away from Washington and then sit back and gauge the response. This is a tactic right out of the ‘Saul Alinsky’ playbook.

A while back, a Reserve Army training course listed evangelical Christians as dangerous extremists that should be avoided by reservists. The administration later claimed that it was not an ‘officially authorized’ document. Then recently there was a controversy about getting in trouble for sharing one’s faith and religion in the military. The administration responded that it was not an ‘official’ policy to restrict religious conversation but only coercive proselytizing.

So now there is a US attorney in Tennessee claiming that offensive ‘anti-Islam’ writing and speech may actually violate the ‘civil rights’ of Muslims and perpetrators of such could be subject to prosecution using current civil rights statutes.

So far no real action has been taken but it will be attempted for sure if there is little or no response or opposition. It is therefore really important that this issue is publicized and that the Justice Department be forced to make an official statement either confirming or denying their support. We will continue to follow this issue with real interest.               *Top
