-Obama: Don’t Pay Attention to The Man Behind The Curtain

Over the weekend, President Barack Obama gave the graduation address at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. In that speech he told the graduates to reject and ignore those voices in America who continue to warn of government tyranny:

Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems. Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave, and creative, and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.

It immediately reminded me of that scene from the Wizard of OZ where the curtain is opened to reveal the ‘Great Oz’ as merely a man pulling the levers behind the scene.

Most of what the President said that day is commendable except this one characterization of those of us who are ‘watchmen on the wall’ exposing government abuses of power as folks who “gum up the works.” He further suggested that the critics did not respect the great experiment of self-rule in America. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I would submit that it is he that is disrespectful of our American experiment and it is his administration that is one of the worst ever when it comes to violating the Bill of Rights (which he has referred to as ‘negative rights’ in the past) and particularly the 1st and 2nd Amendments. The Founders warned us to be vigilant and always on the look out for the natural rise of government tyranny. This is why they put into place a government of checks and balances which President Obama continually cries about as ‘getting in the way’ of his agenda.

Every once in a while he publically fantasizes about how different (great) it would be if he was a dictator or the head of a parliamentary style government and how much more he would get done. No, it is the President himself and his administration that is really guilty of disrespecting our form of self government. All you have to do is look at what he is really doing behind the curtain.             *Top
