Now the ACLU has filed a second lawsuit against the owner of Arlene’s Flowers and Gifts in Richland, Washington representing the Gay couple who were denied service for their ‘wedding.’

We posted on this situation a few days ago when the state Attorney General sued the florist for ‘discrimination.’ Now the owner faces two lawsuits over the same incident with a potential for huge legal fees, along with fines and penalties in the future.

Doug Honig, spokesman for the ACLU, told Reuters:

"Everybody is entitled to their own private religious beliefs and the ACLU respects that strongly."

"But a business open to the public cannot use religion as a reason to justify discriminating."

Meanwhile the florist’s attorney is hoping to eventually demonstrate before a federal court that the case is really all about the First Amendment and religious liberty.

Response: I can remember when the American culture reflected Christian values and America rose to become the most powerful and wealthy country in the world. it really wasn’t that long ago.

When I started first grade in public school in 1953 the school day began with a prayer, a scripture reading, and the Pledge of Allegiance. When my parents went to school early in the 20th century, they learned to read using the Bible and a McGuffey Reader which taught and instilled Christian values and teachings. They went on to become part of ‘the greatest generation’ ever in America.  How things have changed.

Now we are facing a complete turn around where Christian values are beginning to be pushed out of the public square and are actually beginning to be declared as legally and culturally unacceptable, as bigoted, and discriminatory.

Will Christians in the near future in America be expected to go into ‘the closet’ and hide their true Biblical convictions? Will Christians be forced to cave in to new societal and legal standards in order to do business? Will Christians with strong Biblical convictions and conscience be unable to fulfill the requirement for some careers and businesses?

This is what lawsuits like this are really all about. Religious liberty. The ACLU lawyer says that it is still alright to hold private religious views as long as you don’t apply them in a business that is open to the public. If the state Attorney General and the ACLU are successful in these cases and in cases like this then religious liberty will have been redefined in this country and we will no longer have complete freedom of religion and conscience in America.            *Top
