Syria is falling apart with both sides in the civil war involved a number of outrages against humanity including the burning of churches, the persecution of Syrian Christians and the rape of ‘non-Muslim’ women. Among the most recent outrages was the looting and burning of an historic 2,000 year old Synagogue in Damascus. Here’s the story from The Times of Israel:

The 2,000-year-old Jobar Synagogue in the Syrian capital of Damascus — the country’s holiest Jewish site — was looted and burned to the ground.

The Syrian army loyal to President Bashar Assad and rebel forces were blaming each other for the destruction of the historic synagogue, according to reports on Sunday.

The synagogue was said to be built on the site where the prophet Elijah concealed himself from persecution and anointed his successor, Elisha, as a prophet. …

The plight of Syrian Christians:

Meanwhile, Christian villages and churches in Syria are being pillaged and Syrian Christians are being subjected to all kinds of persecution and even rape. Hundreds of thousands of Syrian Christians are leaving their homes behind and trying to escape the conflict. According to Orthodox Metropolitan Bishop Luke:

“Our churches have been attacked in all provinces.”

“In Saidnaya the monastery was under fire, but, thank God, a miracle happened – the shell landed in the yard, breaking through the wall, but didn’t explode.”
“Everywhere – in Harasta, Arbin, Zabadani, Daraa, Aleppo and around Damascus, our churches and our people have been attacked. Our cathedral in Raqqa has been severely damaged.”

Rape of Non-Muslims Condoned in New Fatwa:

The final outrage related to Syria that I discovered on the Internet this week is the report of a new fatwa issued by a Muslim cleric condoning the rape of all ‘non-Sunni’ women by the rebels fighting in Syria. Here’s the story from FrontPage Mag:

Salafi Sheikh Yasir al-‘Ajlawni, a Jordanian of origin who earlier lived in Damascus, Syria for 17 years, posted a YouTube video last week where he said he was preparing to issue a “legitimate fatwa” making it legal (in the eyes of Islam) for those Muslims fighting to topple secular president Bashar Assad and install Sharia law to “capture and have sex with” all non-Sunni women …

A few months earlier, Saudi preacher Muhammad al-Arifi also issued a fatwa allowing jihadi fighters to engage in “intercourse marriage” with captive Syrian women that lasts for a few hours “in order to give each fighter a turn”—also known as gang-rape.

Response: So there you have it just the most recent of the outrages being perpetrated by both sides in the Syrian civil war. Thousands are dying in the conflict and millions are being adversely affected by the war with no end really in sight.

President Assad obviously needs to go but what and who will replace him? The rebels are seeking to install a radical Islamic sharia compliant government which could be even worse news especially for the millions of Christians in the country.

The Obama administration is now said to be secretly supplying some of the rebel groups with weapons and equipment. Hopefully that information is wrong since the results could end up creating a new more radical Islamic government with even stronger ties to Iran. As bad as Assad has been this could end up being even worse. What we have here is a ‘no win’ situation regardless of the outcome.            *Top
