-Yesterday Was Really Cesar Chavez Day?

by Dr. D ~ April 1st, 2013

Cesar Chavez Google Doodle New

Yes it is April Fools Day today but this years best joke was actually perpetrated by Google one day early. You may have missed it with all of the celebrations surrounding the Resurrection of Jesus along with the family ham dinners and the Easter Bunny with his colored eggs  but yesterday was really significant because it was Cesar Chavez Day according to Google and a proclamation of President Obama in 2011.

So rather than honoring an event that changed history for all time, Google decided to honor Cesar Chavez who founded the United Farm Workers Union instead. After all President Obama had proclaimed March 31 as Cesar Chavez Day in 2011 so that is certainly far more modern and current than any old thing that may have happened nearly 2000 years ago. Also, Google does a lot of business in the Middle East and certainly would not want to offend Muslims who don’t believe in the resurrection of Jesus. So there you have it, a new ‘secular’ hero to honor this Easter.

What is really ironic is that the real Cesar Chavez was a devout Catholic Christian who would have undoubtedly protested his honor coming in the place of the Lord Jesus Christ on Resurrection Day if he was still alive.            *Top
