While in Germany talking to students, Secretary of Sate John Kerry characterized and downgraded our American freedom of religion as the “right to be stupid."
Here’s the story from the Christian Post:
Secretary of State John Kerry was barely off the plane in Germany before he embarrassed himself-and all of us-with what is perhaps the worst defense of religious freedom ever offered. Kerry, the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for president in 2004, said the United States protects religious freedom because:
"In America, you have right to be stupid."
Sec. Kerry’s audience of German students laughed when he said that. He missed, of course, the perfect opportunity to share our deepest values with the rising generation that will have Europe ‘s future in their hands.
Response: I hope this is not an indication of what we can expect from Sec.Kerry in the future when it comes to religious liberty issues. Christians are Currently being persecuted in Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia. All nations where the Obama administration supported a regime change in response to the so-called ‘Arab Spring.’ Now there are new more radical Islamist governments in place in all three countries and Christians are facing greater persecution.
I guess I am hoping against hope that John Kerry will actually speak out against what is happening to Christians in these countries but after reading this recent flippant comment on religious liberty maybe this is too much to hope for? *Top
