There is a new poll about Christmas- What is Christmas all about and who is the real king over Christmas? Should this season be more about Jesus or Santa Claus? Guess who wins?

From Rasmussen Reports:

Should Christmas be more about Jesus Christ or Santa Claus? It may seem hard to tell looking at the popular culture, but Americans overwhelmingly think the emphasis should be on Jesus.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 76% of American Adults believe Christmas should be more about Jesus. Only 14% think it should be more about Santa, but another 10% are not sure.

Response: If I was asked to guess the results before seeing this poll I would have said- Santa wins. However, what is going on in the marketplace does not always reflect what is really in the hearts of most Americans.  Merry Christmas!            *Top

As a non believer (I won’t define myself as an atheist as this categorizes me as being against religion, which, per se, I am not) I muse about what the celebration of Jesus is about from different perspectives. From my point of view I see him as a loving person that set a standard for how people should treat others. From a religious perspective I understand that approach doesn’t exactly hit the mark as to what is being celebrated, but not sure exactly what the consensus is, please enlighten. Love and peace to all.

Thanks mark for your comments and you are not far off the mark at all.

To see Jesus “as a loving person that set a standard for how people should treat others” is a very good right on reason to celebrate his birth even if you don’t believe in the religious aspect. The whole theme of the Christmas season is “peace on earth and goodwill to man.”

Those of us who celebrate Christmas from a Christian view believe that Jesus not only came to show us how to live a better life and learn to love others but to show us what God was like. His ultimate goal was and is to change and redeem all humanity- That’s what the angel message is all about- ‘Peace on earth and goodwill to all humanity’ -a new world where there will be no more wars, hunger, sickness, enslavement, and poverty.

That is what Christmas is all about- celebrating the coming of Jesus as a humble baby that truly reflects God and all of His plans for creation- a better world and a better life for all humanity in this life and in the life to come.

I am really happy that you are able to see and celebrate some of the redeeming qualities in the life of Jesus during this season even if you are an unbeliever. I love your attitude and it does give me hope. Merry Christmas and may you and yours be blessed in what ever way you can understand and accept the message and reason for the season.
