From Christian Today (UK):

Muslims have attacked a church and Christian homes in a village close to the Egyptian capital of Cairo.

The BBC reports that at least 16 people were wounded in the unrest in Dahshur, around 40km (25 miles) south of Cairo.

The attack was triggered by the death of a Muslim man as a result of wounds sustained in clashes on Friday.

According to the Associated Press, the Coptic Archbishop of Giza reports that the town’s Christian community has now fled.

Response: This is nothing new and one can usually find the news accounts of at least a couple of attacks against the Christians in Egypt every month. Now the Coptic Christian community is really concerned about their future since the Muslim Brotherhood has won the maj0rity of seats in the Parliament and the presidency.

Following the fall of the Mubarak government, the attacks on the Christian community by radical Muslims have increased all over the country. Meanwhile, the police and government authorities have substantially refused to give any real protection to the Christians. There have also been a number of recent accounts of Muslims kidnapping young Christian women and forcing them to marry and convert. Again the authorities have refused to take any action in those cases.

Also last week, the committee composing a new constitution for Egypt has voted to make Islam the state religion with sharia the basis for all law in the country. This leaves the Christian community with real concerns about how they will be treated in the future.

Meanwhile, President Obama in his stump speeches for re-election continues to brag about how the ‘Arab Spring’ has brought democracy and improved conditions for the citizens of Egypt and the whole area. Obviously that doesn’t include the Coptic Christians.            *Top
