On Monday, Dan Cathy told the Baptist Press that he and his company were supportive of Biblical values and the traditional family.

The Baptist president of fast food chain Chick-Fil-A is facing renewed claims of “homophobia” after confirming his organization’s stand against same-sex marriage:

"Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company’s position.

"We are very much supportive of the family — the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.”

"We operate as a family business … our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.

"We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."

Response: The MSM picked up the quote from the Baptist Press on Monday and it went totally viral with nearly every network and major newspaper across the nation featuring the quote and construing Dan Cathy and his business as being homophobic, discriminatory, and anti-gay.

If you read the original article, the quote was only a small part of the story which featured Dan Cathy’s comments on mixing Biblical principles in his business practices and company policies. It was given in the context of a Christian business owner talking to fellow Christians about how to bring Christ and his influence into the marketplace.

It was not intended to be a company statement against same-sex marriage but only an affirmation of the traditional family and Biblical values. Here’s a follow up article by Baptist Press concerning the controversy:

Chick-fil-A, in nat’l media storm, swims against cultural tide

The battle is raging and it is now open season on any Christian of any note who would dare to stand up for traditional marriage and Biblical principles. Dan Cathy here was not on a campaign against same-sex marriage in this article but only stating his support of the traditional family in a Christian news article. Nevertheless, anyone who dares to challenge the new PC pro-gay, pro same-sex marriage secular and media perspective is going to be under attack from now on. That is the lesson to be learned.

It is now time for thousands of Christian leaders to stand up and be counted. There are still more folks in this country supportive of traditional marriage regardless of how it seems in the media.           *Top

With amazing speed, this country is transitioning from one in which there was freedom of religion, and true respect for one’s religious beliefs, to one in which there is merely freedom of worship (i.e. one is only allowed to “be religious” within the four walls of a church, and once one steps outside the doors of the church, one must put aside all religious beliefs and confirm one’s life and actions to whatever the secular society says is ‘proper’ behavior)

Absolutely correct. There is a concerted effort by some in America including President Obama and his administration to re-interpret the 1st amendment and limit religious freedom to mean only ‘freedom of worship.’ To the uninformed it all sounds one in the same but it isn’t. The unchecked implementation of this strategy will fundamentally change America for ever.

The next election is extremely important for freedom of religion since a 5-4 US Supreme Court right now is the only thing standing in the way. 2 to 3 justices will more than likely be replaced in the coming presidential term with a balance of power up for grabs.

For those who haven’t read it, here’s a link to my post on the difference between ‘freedom of religion’ and ‘freedom of worship.’

There is no such term as “secular society” …
Our society is not made up of believers and non-believers …
Our society is made of people, some of whom gather together every Sunday to tell stories

  5. Dr. D

Actually American society is made up of people with vastly different world views.
