-MSM Ignores Continuing ‘Freedom of Religion’ Story

If a tree falls in the forest but none of the TV networks cover the story did it really happen? It happened alright, just nobody across America found out about it unless they were reading a tree-hugger’s blog. The same thing goes for ‘freedom of religion’ stories lately.
Unless you read a blog or an alternate media source you probably don’t know that over the last week there have been 164 rallies for ‘freedom of religion’ in America. Ten’s of thousands have shown up but the MSM and particularly the top news networks have substantially ignored it:
ABC, CBS, and NBC stayed true to their liberal slant and ignored the 164 rallies across the United States on Friday against the federal government’s abortifacient/birth control mandate under ObamaCare. Religious leaders and conservative politicians, like former GOP presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann, addressed the tens of thousands of pro-religious freedom activists who attended the rallies. But the Big Three apparently didn’t think this was worthy of coverage on their morning and evening newscasts. …
The networks have been reluctant to cover the controversy since the Health and Human Services Administration announced the mandate on January 20, 2012. It took CBS ten days to cover the story on their morning show, CBS This Morning. ABC and NBC remained silent for two weeks.
Three weeks ago, 43 Catholic organizations filed lawsuits over the HHS contraceptives mandate it was the biggest story ever when it comes to freedom of religion in America but that too was ignored by the MSM and dismissed as part of a continuing ‘war on women’ by conservatives and Catholics. Here’s my take on that story:

Response: I think Bozell’s article sums up the problem best right in the opening paragraph:
You’d think the largest legal action in American history in defense of religious liberty would be a major news story. But ABC, CBS, and NBC don’t judge news events by their inherent importance as relates to the future of our freedoms. They deliver the news according to a simple formula: Does it, or doesn’t it, advance the re-election of Barack Obama?
If it doesn’t, it isn’t news.
The Main Stream media‘s handling of this story brings back memories from my childhood of the old USSR news coverage that slanted every news story in communist Russia’s favor and completely ignored anything that didn’t serve their propaganda machine.
We have always prided ourselves in America as having a ‘free press’ that tells the unbiased truth. However, in this generation nearly all of the press have graduated from liberal cookie-cutter journalist schools in universities that push a secular world view. Nearly all the members of the current MSM in America are left of center and far less religious than the majority of middle America.
The point is, while we may still have free speech and a ‘free press’ in America it can no longer be fairly characterized as unbiased in any way. *Top
