-A Sign of Our Times?: “Corpus Christi: Playing With Redemption”

From the SF Weekly via the Huffington Post:

If the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’s Hunky Jesus Contest on Easter just wasn’t enough to piss-off the Catholics, next Sunday’s world premiere of the documentary "Corpus Christi: Playing with Redemption" at the Castro Theatre probably will.

The film follows 108 Productions’ revival of Terrence Mcnally’s play Corpus Christi, a retelling of the story of Jesus with the messiah depicted as a gay man in 1950s Texas. Since the play’s New York debut in 1998, it has garnered much protest and controversy.

And for those of you homophobes who are too lazy to leave the house to protest the film, a Catholic group, America Needs Fatima, has made it easy for you. Go to this website, and you will find a form letter protesting the "blasphemous homosexual play." Just type in your own name and hit send, as some 13,000 people so far have done.

The article goes on to quote the producer that the film is designed to address religious based ‘bullying’ and homophobia.

Response: This production is really ‘a sign of our times’ in which nothing is considered ‘sacred’ anymore. It is deemed ok to change the very story of Jesus and the ‘word of God’ to support behavior that is Biblically condemned. It joins the ‘cross in a vat of urine’ and other such anti-Christian artsy productions of this generation. It also goes hand in hand with liberal Christian churches who have re-interpreted the Bible in order to not only allow for homosexuality but to celebrate it in choosing their clergy.

Now those of us who still follow the Bible and its teachings are assigned to a non-PC purgatory of ‘religious bullies’ and ‘homophobes.’  We are now entering a time when that which is good and moral according to the Bible is being portrayed as evil and that which is Biblically condemned is the current PC good. Biblical Christians better get use to it. Unless we have a major revival in America, it could get even worse for believers in the future.               *Top
