-Franklin Graham Says He Would ‘Break the Law’

by Dr. D ~ March 7th, 2012

Franklin Graham says that he would ‘break the law’ if the government passed a mandate that would force his ministry to hire employees who did not share his Christian faith and outlook.

This came in an interview with NewsMax senior editor David Patten:

“What I’m concerned about as a faith-based organization is that I’m going to be forced to hire people that are not of my faith, or don’t have the same values that I have.”

“Frankly, I think every Christian out there should be concerned that we will be forced to bring people into our organizations, and put them on our payrolls, when we know that they are opposed to everything that we stand for and believe.”

“I guess at that point, I would just have to break the law and take it all the way to the Supreme Court and fight it if I have to.”

Graham said this in response to the current controversy over the Obama HHS mandate that religious organizations provide insurance that covers contraceptives, and ‘morning after’ abortive pills. Graham noted that his ministry, Samaritan’s Purse, is not a church but a parachurch organization that is not covered by the Obama administration’s conscience clause which protects only churches and other houses of worship.

Graham was not the first protestant leader to suggest ‘civil disobedience’ as a possible course of action in response to the HHS mandate. Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention, has also stated that his denomination “would not comply” along with  Dr. Albert Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Megachurch pastor Rick Warren also recently stated:

“I’d go to jail rather than cave in to a government mandate that violates what God commands us to do. Would you?”

Response: Is Franklin Graham being paranoid? Many would consider this a reach –that the government would try to dictate religious organizational hiring- but I don’t. The Obama administration has already, through the Justice department, supported a test case all the way to the Supreme Court (where they fortunately lost) involving a licensed minister who was fired by a Lutheran School.

Right now there is a huge amount of pressure on the administration to force the hiring of homosexuals and secularists in allied schools, ministries, and religious non-profit organizations. If President Obama gets another 4 years look for this to become a real hot issue.

Following the same line of thinking, major colleges and universities around the country right now are forcing Christian student organizations to disallow any faith requirements for organizational leadership or be kicked off campus. This could be just the beginning.            *Top
