According to a group of medical ethicists linked to Oxford University, parents should be allowed to have their newborn babies killed because they are “morally irrelevant” and it’s really no different than abortion.

This teaching is found in an article published in the Journal of Medical Ethics entitled:

 “After-birth abortion: Why should the baby live?” written by Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva.

According to these so-called ‘ethicists’, newborn babies are not “actual persons” and do not have a “moral right to life”. Therefore parents should have the right to have their baby killed if it is born with a disability. The writers contend that:

“The moral status of an infant is equivalent to that of a fetus in the sense that both lack those properties that justify the attribution of a right to life to an individual.”

“Both a fetus and a newborn certainly are human beings and potential persons, but neither is a ‘person’ in the sense of ‘subject of a moral right to life’.

“We take ‘person’ to mean an individual who is capable of attributing to her own existence some (at least) basic value such that being deprived of this existence represents a loss to her.”

(It’s )“not possible to damage a newborn by preventing her from developing the potentiality to become a person in the morally relevant sense”.

Response: Wow, where to begin? We do agree with the so-called ‘ethicists’ that killing a newborn is the same as abortion, but after that we part company since we support a pro-life stand for babies in or out of the womb.

For a long time, pro-life folks have been saying that the acceptance of abortion in Western societies is a slippery slope that will result in an overall devaluing of all human life. This ‘ethical’ stand proves that concern to be far more valid than any of us would have predicted.

This is coming from Europe but there are plenty of folks in America with similar attitudes towards life. Some radical environmentalist view all of humanity as a plague on ‘Mother Earth’.

When one decides that there is no god and humans are merely the product of millions of years of evolution then human life is really not all that precious. Plus, there are no absolutes at the foundation of any kind of ‘ethics’. What is acceptable is then based upon the popular thought of the day and on what is convenient. When funds are scarce like in bankrupt Europe, then it is no longer convenient to support new babies with disabilities. Particularly when the state is paying for cradle to the grave health care.

Already euthanasia is becoming an accepted practice in some European countries for those with terminal diseases and even increasingly for the aged with diminished capacities. Now the other end of the spectrum is going to be added to the equation?

The only question is –who decides which babies are going to live and which are going to die? The so-called medical ‘ethicists’ here argue that the parents should have that right. But under what conditions?

Who decides when a child can be killed? Right now in most Western countries, when it comes to babies in the womb it is the woman’s legal right ‘to choose’ life or death. But after a child is born must a baby be eliminated immediately or maybe up to 1 year old –what is the cut-off date for when a child becomes a ‘person’ with full civil rights?

Also, who decides why a child can be killed? Only those with some kind of defined disabilities, or maybe those which are the wrong gender like in China where millions of female babies have been aborted or secretly killed after birth.

Once before in Europe there was a leader who decided that all disabled children were to be eliminated since they were a burden on society and could not contribute to the growing war machine at the time. Later the same regime would decide to kill over 6 million perfectly good people because they were the wrong race and religion.

These so-called ‘ethicists’ are really talking about going down the same path that was already traveled by Germany under Adolf Hitler. We do agree with them that killing infants is really the same as abortion and so far 10’s of millions have died in the secret silent holocaust legalized in Western countries under the guise of a woman’s ‘right to choose’.

In the process, many European countries are destroying themselves and will be no longer be anything like they are now in just one generation since they have a negative growth rate and the millions of immigrants that they have brought in to populate the declining work force are Muslims with an entirely different culture and set of values.

This is what happens when a people turn away from God and in this case Christianity which was the foundation of Western European culture and thought for nearly 2 thousand years. When the foundation is taken away the whole structure begins to crumble particularly when there is no absolute basis to build upon except the sifting sands of secular political correctness and changing evolution.            *Top
