-The Liberal Myth of Evangelical ‘Dominionism’
by Dr. D ~ August 19th, 2011
As the election season starts to heat up and several evangelical Christians get in the race for the Presidency, the liberal main stream media once more trots out scary mythic visions of crazy ‘fundamentalist’ Christians taking over America and turning it into a ‘theocracy’.
Rep. Michele Bachmann and Gov. Rick Perry in particular along with Gov. Sarah Palin seem to generate a distaste among liberals that borders upon obsession. It is not enough to merely oppose their actual stated political views and positions on issues, they must also be demonized as agents of ‘evangelical dominionism’. It doesn’t seem to matter that there is no real evidence backing up this myth.
There are between 40 to 100 million Americans that could be identified as evangelical Christians. You would be hard pressed in a poll to find 10% who would even know what dominion theology even is much less be supportive of it.
The number of evangelical Christians who would actually support turning America into a theocracy is such a tiny minority that it would be hard to even put a percentage on their number. Certainly less than 1/10th of 1% if that. I personally don’t know a single one and I know hundreds of pastors and Christian leaders and I am aware of most of the major evangelical leaders in America.
Evangelical leaders are among the strongest supporters of the US Constitution the way it stands and particularly in favor of keeping our freedom of religion. The idea that evangelicals like Perry, Palin, and Bachmann are stealth agents of theocratic dominionism is ridiculous and would be laughable except I see references to it all of the time in the media and on dozens of liberal blogs.
Fact is, when it comes to religion, radical Islam and the implementation of sharia law is a far greater theocratic threat to our republic, our freedoms, and our way of life. Yet liberals including many in the media refuse to even consider or measure that threat. Instead, they continue to publicize and pursue overblown myths like Christian dominionism.
It really does demonstrate their overall ignorance of evangelicals, who they are, what they believe, and what they really stand for. *Top

Michelle Bachmann has said that her mentor was John Eidsmoe, a card-carrying Christian Reconstructionist, and has called R.J. Rushdoony a “great mind.” There are many other things she has said that reveal her domoninist leanings.
