-NBC Apologizes to Congress for ‘Under God’ Slight

by Dr. D ~ July 13th, 2011

WASHINGTON–NBC has issued a formal apology to more than 100 members of Congress for omitting the words "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance during a patriotic montage that aired last month.

The letter by Kyle McSlarrow, president of NBC Universal, was issued in response to a petition by sent to NBC by107 members of Congress complaining about a video montage aired during the U.S. Open golf tournament featuring schoolchildren saying the pledge with the phrase "under God." obviously edited out.

The network received 1,000’s of complaints at the time from viewers and apologized for the gaff before the program was even over. Nevertheless 107 members of Congress sent a complaint to NBC and now comes this official redress from McSlarrow of NBC:

"…a serious error in judgment was made by a small group of people. To be absolutely clear, this was not an ideological decision by the company and was not discussed with or approved by any senior NBC official." …

"The employees involved have been reprimanded. And we have already implemented a new checks and balances process for pre-produced pieces, ensuring that nothing will go on the air without senior-level approval."

Response: Hopefully this will stand as an example to all of the media who would try to arbitrarily ‘edit out’ God from the American experience. There are still more believers in this country than not.

This was a case of ‘political correctness’ taken to a ridiculous extreme. In order not to offend a few they needlessly chose to alienate millions instead?

Some question why Congress is getting involved in this. Well Congress voted to put ‘under God’ in the pledge in the first place and also where one would need to go in order to change it. So they have every right to address this situation as the body of record and authority over the Pledge.             *Top
