-‘God Is’ Billboard Replaces Atheist One

by Dr. D ~ December 26th, 2010

A new sign sponsored by the Times Square Church of Manhattan reads:  "God is"  plus a word cloud of religious themes. The new billboard replaces the controversial  atheist one which carried a message declaring Christmas a myth: “You Know It’s A Myth”.

There was considerable reaction to the original atheist ‘Christmas’ billboard that was placed on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel including a dueling billboard the Catholic League erected with its own pro-Christmas message on the New York side of the tunnel: "You Know It’s Real: This Season Celebrate Jesus."

According to Times Square Church Senior Pastor Connor Conlon their church placed the new billboard message for this reason:

"We want to encourage people to seek God and prove that indeed He is."

Response: For years Christmas and God were taken for granted in our culture. This is no longer the case.

Now the message of the original birth of the Christ child in Bethlehem needs to be proclaimed more clearly and the gift that God gave the world needs to be emphasized.

Now it is necessary for Christians to respond to all of the challenges that the secular culture is bringing against the Christian traditions and message. The battle can no longer be ignored even if it is merely an atheist billboard.            *Top of the Blog

Amen. And just like the culture doesn’t assume God anymore, we Christians can’t assume any sense of superiority in culture. We have to try hard to make our voice heard just like everyone else. But unlike all the others, our voice is the Word of God who became flesh! We need to derive our legitimacy from Him, and not from the culture.

Thanks Jacob Andrews, you are completely right when you say: “We need to derive our legitimacy from Him, and not from the culture.”
Too many Christians float along with the culture rather than living by the Word. Then they wonder what went wrong.

    Xtians will lose this battle.

Yours is a silly, archaic set of beliefs, incapable of grasping reality for what it is.

Your god is a fantasy that we will slowly dissassemble with our understanding of matter and the spacetime that it resides in.

We will replace the lies of your so called miracles with the wonders of our technology; we will heal man through our mastery of medicine instead of your misplaced trust in prayer.

Your actions can slow us down, but you will fail in the end.

We love you, you silly misguided ones, and we will be here to hold your hands when you finally decide to open your eyes and see.

We are Legion and we cannot be stopped.

    Damian,
Well at least you mean well and love us ‘silly misguided ones.’
