Christopher Hitchens the journalist, author, and atheist crusader has been diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus. Should Christians pray for his recovery?
Yes.
First of all we should respect the teaching of Jesus:
“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who abuse you.” –Luke 6:27-28
Christopher who wrote the best-selling book- “God is Not Great” could genuinely be considered an ‘enemy’ of God and Christianity but not necessarily of individual Christians. He is sincere if not sincerely wrong but one who is also really concerned about people and issues of justice.
In another sense he is an enigma in that we could say that the world might be a better place without his diatribes against God and Christianity but would the world really be a better place without Christopher Hitchens? No I do not believe so.
Personally I do like and respect the guy even though I don’t like or agree with what he has to say about God or Christianity. I have heard him on a number of different occasions in debates and on the Hugh Hewitt radio show. He is an eloquent no nonsense guy who doesn’t suffer fools very well at all. Which many believers would consider rather ironic in the face of Psalm 14:1.
Plus he has guts and is not afraid to call out injustice and wrong where he finds it. I read one account a couple of years back when he made a trip to Lebanon and ended up getting injured and almost caused a riot when he called out some Islamists for their Nazi like anti-Semitism. Also I heard that he once confronted Fidel Castro’s policies while he was actually visiting in Cuba itself.
Interestingly today I read several reports of atheists making fun of Christians praying for Hitchens and some who were even critical of Christopher Hitchens himself for not discouraging prayers on his behalf. Nevertheless I will be praying for Christopher, for his recovery and for the salvation of his soul. *Top of the Blog

That’s a nice view of things. Yes, we should pray for him as a brother who is suffering.
