A Bible in every language by 2025?

Wycliffe Bible Translators now believe that Bible translations into all the remaining 2,200 languages are possible by 2025. At least part of the Bible could be done in every language by then.

Those remaining languages are spoken by nearly 350 million people mostly in remote areas of the world.

Ten years ago they were estimating that it would take another 140-150 years or so to get it done. However, new computer software has helped to cut the time needed for the translations of new languages significantly.

Bible translators have been averaging 75 new language starts for the last ten years and 109 new projects were started in 2009 alone.

Response: This seems rather incredible and I never thought I would possibly live to see it accomplished in my lifetime. When you think about it this is a project that has been on-going in the Christian community since the 1st century—for nearly 2,000 years.

This accomplishment could also have considerable eschatological significance at least from my perspective. It could be viewed as an sign of the ‘end-times’.

For years many prophecy scholars have taught that Jesus could come back for His church at any moment. I’ve always had some trouble with that ‘immanent’ teaching believing that the Gospel needed to be taught in all of the world to every nation before the end:

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” –Matt. 24:14

Bible translations in every language would go a long ways towards getting the gospel to every nationality and people group. We are living in exciting times. First the revival of the nation of Israel and now the possibility that the gospel could be proclaimed and read in literally all of the world within 15 Years. Incredible!           *Top of the Blog

As Wycliffe has moved away from sending out foreign translators and toward training native speakers to translate, Vision 2025 has mostly moved forward in language groups with a church. But what about the languages without a church? Most of them are very isolated, and religious and cultural barriers make them inaccessible to national to Christians.
I have been involved in translating the Bible for a people group in the Sahara Desert without a church or the Scriptures, and God blessed our efforts. We now have the Gospel of Luke in this language… and are looking to see this happen in other languages like ours using the lessons we learned from twelve years of service with them.
It IS possible to get the Bible translated into every single language spoken around the world! Please pray with us, that all may enjoy the encouragement His Word gives us in challenging times.
