-Christian Convert ‘Son of Hamas’ to Receive Asylum

by Dr. D ~ June 30th, 2010

Mosab Hassan Yousef was granted asylum today by a U.S. immigration judge in San Diego, California. Yousef, the son of a Hamas founder, converted to Christianity and had spied on the terrorist organization for Israel for 10 years.

Incredibly U.S. Homeland Security attempted to have him deported under the excuse that he had an extensive ‘terrorist background’ in the past. If they had been successful Yousef was clearly in danger of his life upon return to Israel. It is entirely inexplicable why the Obama administration tried to single him out unless they were responding to pressure from the Palestinians.

Now the government is dropping any objections to his asylum following this decision. Homeland Security officials offered no explanation on why they were dropping the case.

Here is a quote from the court filing from Yousef’s lawyer Steven Seick:

"For 10 years, he fought terrorism in secret, hiding what he was doing and who he was."

"He deserves a safe place away from violence and fear."

“Yousef left Hamas and spent 10 years working with Israeli intelligence, helping prevent several terrorist attacks. He has also abandoned Islam for the Christian faith, prompting his Muslim relatives to disown him.”

Also from a statement by Yousef:

"If I have to be somewhere else, I will keep fighting the God of Islam, because he has taken my family from me."

Response: That last statement by Yousef demonstrates why he would be in danger if sent back to the Middle East.

The government officials refuse to explain why they are dropping this case and not pursuing an appeal. It is very simple—political expediency. It didn’t make any sense in the first place except President Obama is far more sympathetic to Islam and the Palestinians than any previous president.

The case had been well publicized in Christian circles and had become a ‘cause celeb’. The Obama administration decision to try and have him deported was an unpopular scandal to say the least. It has become a ‘hot button’ issue at a time when Obama’s support is on the decline. The administration would undoubtedly now love to see this case just disappear.            *Top of the Blog
