-Woody Allen: "It would be good…if (Obama) could be dictator” and other Threats to Our Democracy

A number of liberals have been lamenting lately that American freedoms and democracy are getting in the way of Obama’s agenda.

Here’s a recent quote from film maker Woody Allen:

“It would be good…if (Obama) could be dictator for a few years because he could do a lot of good things quickly.”

“I am pleased with Obama. I think he is brilliant. The Republican Party should get out of his way and stop trying to hurt him.”

Also here’s a link to Chris Matthews calling for Obama to nationalize the oil industry in response to the BP oil spill:

“Why doesn’t the President go in there, nationalize an industry and get the job done for the people?”

“Everybody says ‘Capitalism is great. Unbridled free enterprise is great.’ Look at it! This is great, isn’t it?!”

Then here’s a link to an article exposing a George Soros funded group calling for the Government take over and control of the Media.

Finally, just last week in a graduation speech President Obama himself lamented over the overload of information available out there and the variety of disagreeing opinions in the media today. He seemed to question whether it was actually ‘good’ for America:

“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank all that high on the truth meter.”

“…information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation.”

“…some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction.”

“All of this is not only putting new pressures on you, it is putting new pressures on our country and on our democracy.”

Response: This is just a few recent quotes that demonstrate a disturbing trend among some on the left who are lamenting that the American democratic process is getting in the way of ‘progress’.

Matthews is obviously on a rant and cannot be taken serious here, but Woody Allen always did love and admire Cuba’s Castro so his statements are true to form.

The threat to freedom of the press and speech is real with a number of different folks in the Obama administration calling for more government control over the Internet and talk radio in particular.

There was a time in America when just three major TV networks and a hand full of newspapers dominated the news. Then along came Fox, talk radio, and the Internet. Now it is much harder for the political class to control thought in America. I happen to think that this is good.

Unfortunately there are those like Woody Allen who actually think that The Constitution, The Bill of Rights, and the opinionated American voters are getting in the way and blocking their progressive agenda.              *Top
