-Hard-Ball Politics on the Health Bill: Pro-life Amendment Reversed

by Dr. D ~ July 31st, 2009

On Thursday, earlier in the day some ‘pro-life’ Democrats combined with the Republicans on the The Energy and Commerce Committee passed an amendment restricting use of health funds for abortions. Later the same evening, after strong-arming several in his party, committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-California), invoked House rules that allowed him to bring up the amendment for a second vote. This time the measure was defeated by one vote.

Response: This is just one example of the shenanigans going on in Congress over the Health bill. In this case, the Democratic leadership in Congress which includes Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman are bound and determined to include abortion as a part of the health services covered by the bill. One can only guess the kind of tactics that were in play to convince two ‘blue-dog’ supposedly ‘pro-life’ Democratic representatives to change their vote and allow the amendment to fail.

One thing for sure, more than health care is at stake here, all sorts of of stuff is included in the massive health bill—issues that congress has been fighting over for years. Last week the Congress voted down an amendment that would make sure that the health care funds were not available for the 12 million illegal aliens in this country. That vote was also dictated by the democratic leadership using hard-ball politics.

As it now stands, the health care bill if it passes Congress and is put into law will serve everyone who shows up in the country, pay for abortions, and some have indicated that the 1,000+ page bill may even fund sex-change operations and promote euthanasia.

Some of you folks out there may want to check in with your Reps. in Congress and see where they stand. fact is—few if any of the members of Congress have even read the whole thing. I already know that my Congressman (John Campbell R-CA) is voting against the bill.             *Top
